Perdition's Mouth: Traitor Guard EXPANSION

Created by Timo Multamäki @ Arctic Union

The Traitor Guard expansion brings a new playable hero and two alternative scenarios to Perdition’s Mouth. The scenarios can be played as one offs or as part of the Abyssal Rift campaign. Perdition’s Mouth: Abyssal Rift is required to use the Traitor Guard expansion. The new Hero, Brother Örn, is a fallen guard who has been accused of being a traitor by his compatriots. Trustworthy? No way! But having a common enemy makes for a good motive for cooperation, especially if one is in dire trouble.

Latest Updates from Our Project:

On schedule - but asking your opinion
over 8 years ago – Sat, Sep 02, 2017 at 11:39:10 PM

On Schedule

Despite the usual unexpected minor hiccups, we are currently on schedule for manufacturing, and should begin printing games in early October. This still gives us plenty of time to catch any stray typos and do more playtesting of all the scenarios.

The last piece to keeping things on schedule is your surveys! Please please fill them out on backerkit as soon as you are able to. The deadline is the end of this month, but the sooner everyone completes them, the better we are able to plan out fulfillment details.

Speaking of fulfillment, almost all of the orders for the original PM:Abyssal Rift games have been processed to the warehouses and are being prepared for shipping. A few orders are still waiting for additional parts to be shipped from Finland, but we’ll get them out as soon as possible.

We have received the resin cast sample of the Brother Orn mini and it looks outstanding! We’re very pleased with this new manufacturer and their experience with resin really shows! They really nailed the individual packaging too, which will really minimize issues during shipping.

Translations and Products

Translation of the game into various languages has begun in earnest. This is in preparation for the second printing of PM:AR.

And speaking of translations, we have finally found a viable method for printing small quantities of high quality, updated, localized rulebooks!

This means that the latest versions of the PM:AR rulebook in German, Italian and Spanish will soon be added to the EU store at 9,99€/each + 2€ for shipping anywhere in Europe (4€ to anywhere else).

Also, we have a very small number of copies of our previous game The Phantom League that we’ll be adding to our EU store. This includes the base game, expansions and the ultimate bundle. Remaining quantities are very limited, so don’t wait if you’ve been thinking about it.

Last, but not least, we need your suggestions

We’d love to hear more of your suggestions on how we can improve our Kickstarter campaigns. With the second printing of PM:AR coming soon, we know everyone will benefit if you all share your ideas and concerns based on the campaigns we’ve done so far.

As always, thank you so much for supporting PM and DDP!

Late pledges, BackerKit surveys and future prospects
over 8 years ago – Fri, Aug 18, 2017 at 01:21:21 AM

Fellows against the Cult of Change,

In the short while since you helped us complete the PM:TG, we have worked hard to prepare the new materials that you have unlocked, and it’s looking very good. We have two more scenarios to finish up and then we’ll be ready. We have received all the artwork required for PM:TG, have completed all the cards and the resin sample production for Örn is well in progress. Thus, we’re nicely within our original schedule to have everything in the manufacturer’s care by the end of August 2017.

Late pledges?

There have been questions about late pledges. We do take late pledges (of the same amounts as KS pledge levels) paid via Paypal to [email protected]. Please pay in EUR instead of US. We will manually add you to BackerKit.

We’re aware that there is a slight difference in USD vs. EUR, but due to the huge amount of added materials and our Paypal account being a EUR account, this is the best we can do.

PMTG will be sold at 35€ or 38 USD (plus shipping) when it’s ready, thus buying it now is still a great bargain.

Surveys & BackerKit

We’ve progressed nicely on this front, too. Our current schedule is to send the surveys on about the 20th of August. We’d like to remind you that, because some of the items in the Survey are of limited quantity and/or reside in different warehouse, there are multiple lines of similar items on some add-ons, such as the base game.

Regarding the pledge level upgrades: We have also opted NOT to allow pledge level upgrades from PM:TG to PM:TG + base game levels. However, this doesn’t mean that you can’t buy the base game; the base game is still available as an add-on. This is purely a matter of logistics. We cannot limit how many copies could be upgraded, but we can keep track of how many copies of certain add-ons exist.

Only pledges at the 29 USD level and above can buy add-ons. If your pledge level is below 29 USD, you must upgrade to the 29 USD in order to have access to the add-ons.

What comes next?

There have been persistent rumors (that we’ve confirmed) that we’re working on another kickstarter for this year. We intend to run a 2nd print run of the retail version of Perdition’s Mouth: Abyssal Rift , likely in October. We’d appreciate any kind of suggestions and hints on how to improve our odds. Please send those to us. We plan to keep the MSRP of the 2nd edition of PM:AR just as it is and we will offer an “upgrade kit” for the 1st edition owners willing to upgrade their game.

Our current priority list of upgrades for PM:AR 2nd edition is:

  • Rulebook - so that it includes relevant pieces of the FAQ materials
  • Scenarios. Fix the errors. (DONE)
  • Fix the 2 map errors (DONE)
  • Scenarios. Prepare a few extras for potential Stretch Goals.
  • New stickers, also available as add-on. (DONE)

As always, we also welcome new team members to contribute. Should you be interested, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Sincerely Yours,

The PM:TG team

Dear backers,

The end is close, but it looks like we’ve averted the Cult - for now. We all know that PMTG is funded and during last day we’ve achieved the 5th Scenario via a social goal when the required BGG likes was achieved.

We’re also really close to reach the 600 backers. That would be really awesome to achieve the last of our prepared social goals. Our team is still optimistic that maybe we could reach the 42.5K financial goal to unlock more goodies. And even if not, PMTG has grown considerably in size. What started as a mini-expansion is actually now just as full as Hideout or Witch’s grotto used to be, or maybe even more so as it brings so many cards.

We’re very busy with finalizing all the new material and playtesting the 5th scenario. Here is one of the latest things I just finished. You might guess whose booster treasure this could be :)

Tomorrow cometh

Tomorrow at this time we’ll know if we reach the final social goal and the remaining financial goals. And soon after that we’ll send you the BackerKit query. It’s been a thrilling project, once again, we’ve learned a lot. And as before, we intend to take every bit of your feedback and lessons learned here to use in our next campaign. With that in mind, it would be an excellent time now to join our mailing list, to be informed about our exciting new projects.

Chinese translation!

And just when we thought that all surprises have been expended, we were given an opportunity we didn’t quite expect. There will be a Chinese version of PM:AR rulebook and scenarios. How cool is that? And PM:AR will also enter the Chinese markets.

Less than 48h left and it’s looking good
over 8 years ago – Sun, Aug 06, 2017 at 09:39:01 PM

Dear backers,

We’re seeing clear progress since yesterday, thank you. Today we’ll aim for brevity, yet there is quite a lot.

Today's update covers the following topics:

  • One of the last art pieces left
  • Extra tough packing
  • Shipment insurances
  • Last campaign steps
  • And again a new video from our game testers!

Art piece

Our brilliant artist Jamie Noble made superb work again with the Booster Treasures. This is the second to last piece from Jamie! If you like Jamie’s work, do encourage him by liking him on facebook!

The water lily is Aisha's booster item, which I designed to complement her awesome skills, but also so that it corresponds to the unique style of that Hero. I believe it’ll be a good treasure to begin adventuring and likely among the most effective booster items we’ve created.

What do you think? We’d appreciate to hear your opinion.

Extra tough packing?

Yes, that can and will be arranged as BackerKit option. The exact pricing is still under investigation, but our warehouses did reply that it’s typically about 20% of extra expense to shipping, but we can promise that under no circumstances it will be more than +25% of the regular shipping price. If it’s more, then it’ll be our losses.

Both our US and EU shippers did respond, however, that typically (for 99% of cases) their sturdy shipping box with air space filled with foam is good alone. But this need came with shipping to locations where post is known to handle all parcels in even more harsh ways.

This was a good suggestion and we’d be delighted to hear if you’ll see that our services could be improved. We take every bit of feedback into careful consideration.

Shipment insurances?

Another good point was the insurance for shipments. We were told by our EU warehouse that every shipment is always insured with full value, anyhow, without any extra costs.

Last steps of the campaign?

We have 537 BGG likes. That’s just 13 shy of the next social goal. Wouldn’t it be stupid if we can’t reach the mere 13 likes?

I believe it’s also completely realistic to get the 600 backers, which would unlock the last social goal of this project and very likely at the same time we’d reach the 42.5k and 47.5k financial goals. Then we’d reached all there is to reach. I’m counting on everyone to help our team to achieve full success. We’ve done great, already, make no mistake there, but we strongly believe we can still improve.

And the video... This time Nikolas summarizes the brand new Örn-centered scenario called “the Choice” which takes place in the Summoner’s lair.

72 last hours and a lot of news
over 8 years ago – Sat, Aug 05, 2017 at 11:13:39 PM

Dearest backers,

We were positively surprised at the early part of the campaign. Progress was much faster than we had anticipated. Similarly the last few days have been very confusing, obviously to you as well. We want to end the confusion and establish an ultra positive mood for the last hours to get the last goals, still.

On this update we’ll cover the following topics:

  • Production of PMTG has begun!
  • PMTG Cards preview
  • Shipping clarified
  • Last goals to gain
  • BackerKit

And as promised “the preview video” by our game testing team.

Production has begun!

We’ve signed a deal with LongPack to create the miniatures for PMTG (Örn + shields) (and later on the 2nd edition of PM:AR). We’ve gotten an update that they’re now producing the miniatures and we’re expecting samples during August and full production completed within September.

The printing of the cardboard components will be done in Europe as that’ll shave off almost two months of time and in a small production like PMTG, the cost difference when you take the shipping into account is minuscule.

We’re creating a small amount of extra Örn miniatures as quite a few has asked about the availability of another copy of it. And as Örn will be resin miniature, we’ve tried to learn lessons from the past: The miniatures will be packed separately in a protective plastic shell (which is among the many reasons why we chose specifically LongPack: they knew immediately what to offer for that). We’d still like to remind everyone that if production team at LongPack decides that the miniature needs separate parts - then that is what we’ll do. At the moment it looks like it’ll be fully assembled.

PMTG Cards preview

We’ve done most of the cards to print ready versions already, as we had so much faith in you that we actually contracted the required artists already early on. We believe that we’ll make a better campaign when the game is ready and the components are true and tested. We’re aware that not everyone seems to play this in a similar fashion, but we’ll take our commitments towards you seriously.

Without further babbling, please follow this link where we have web resolution versions of all of the material we’ve done so far. Two cards have still placeholder art, but besides that we believe those are ready. Hence, should you find anything unclear, bad language or other improvement suggestions PLEASE do send us an email or leave a comment below and we’ll do our best to correct these within the next two weeks.

When we begun PMTG campaign a few complaints were heard that it’s small update. But now we have 66 cards ready!

Shipping clarified & BackerKit

There has been also quite a few questions about shipping. We’ve tried to explain it in comments, but let’s recap. Base games (and possible extras you might want to have) will be shipped as soon as you’ll fill up the BackerKit, which we plan to open about 1-2 weeks after the end of this campaign. Then we process orders approximately twice a month.

All PMTG copies will be shipped from Europe when production is ready. This is purely for cost and logistics reasons. If we’d have needed to first ship the games to USA and ship from there, that would have doubles the logistics costs for PMTG shipment for US backers.

We would like to remind you that we have three warehouses and our backerkit WILL allow you to select items from multiple warehouses in a way or another (they’re working on a solution for that at BackerKit), but that might increase your total costs as we cannot cover extra shipping costs from our own pocket for obvious reasons.

IF there is still something unclear, PLEASE do send us an email. Without feedback it’s very hard to improve - and we sincerely want to constantly improve.

Last goals to gain!

The extra victim card at 42.5k would be the first victim card that has a non-numeric function. It has a healing function that our game testers found very powerful and thrilling.

The MP3 background audio project is already well on it’s way as composing such is a slow project. It would be sad if it’s not released, as the preliminary version was found to be extremely atmospheric by those who tried it out.

The surprise cards for trading functions are indeed just that, a surprise, but the intention is to bring a limited trading function that quite a many have asked to randomly occur between scenarios.

The last remaining scenario (from social goals) would allow you to peer in the training routines of the Cult. And the last would be Infested Gut wound which has the standard infestation function with added pain. It’s truly nasty and would be a good balancing for all the extras you’ve unlocked.

If we’ll reach these five remaining goals, we’re out of tricks and goals. We’d have achieved all that there is to unlock. And what a bag of many things would it be: 72 cards, 5 scenarios, a bunch of new tokens for variability, a few new rules and a new Hero… topped with bunch of digital goodies. It’s rare to see a full completion of a campaign, but with PMTG that is completely within our reach - with your help.

And the game testers perspective of the scenario 8D

Nikolas Patrakka was the most effective game tester we had for PMTG among our team of slightly more than 10 game testers. In general, our scenarios, cards and other features were vastly improved by the play testing teams efforts. Especially this scenario actually were changed a few times to better reflect the wishes of our backers, you. We have been told that the 8A and 8B are damnably hard to complete. That is true, but also intentional. What possible use would a campaign game have if the last scenario wouldn’t be difficult to win? Nevertheless, we listened and decided to develop a plausible alternative which retains interest, not to easy, but with a few concessions. The end result was the scenario 8D “the Demon is a wussy”.
