Perdition's Mouth: Traitor Guard EXPANSION

Created by Timo Multamäki @ Arctic Union

The Traitor Guard expansion brings a new playable hero and two alternative scenarios to Perdition’s Mouth. The scenarios can be played as one offs or as part of the Abyssal Rift campaign. Perdition’s Mouth: Abyssal Rift is required to use the Traitor Guard expansion. The new Hero, Brother Örn, is a fallen guard who has been accused of being a traitor by his compatriots. Trustworthy? No way! But having a common enemy makes for a good motive for cooperation, especially if one is in dire trouble.

‘What in Zanziar is that?’ asked Elisa.

‘What in Zanziar is what? This?’ Olazábal pointed at the sleigh in front of her. ‘I’m not sure really. I thought maybe we could do a special show this winter, giving out candy to children and telling some jokes.’

‘You haven’t answered my question, what is it?’

‘It’s a sleigh,’ Olazábal looked genuinely confused by the question.

‘OK…’ Elisa managed to talk in such a way that the transition from curiosity to irritation was almost palpable - a line that threatened to be breached in moments, depending on the next answer. ‘What is it for? And don’t tell me it’s for transport.’

‘But it is for transport,’ Olazábal winced. ‘We can travel all over the world handing out candy - and toys and games!’

‘Right… and those mules have antlers strapped to their heads because that will, magically, make them not tire?’

‘Yes!’ Cried Olazábal. ‘And they’ll go faster! And fly! We’ll travel all over the world in one night!’

‘Uh-huh. Can you pass me the bottle now, please, Ollie?’

All things being equal, you’ll receive your copy of Perdition’s Mouth: Traitor Guard early in 2018, as you know. With everything on the train there’s little news to pass on right now but we want to wish you the very best of the season’s greetings and let you know how much we’ve valued your support in 2017. You’re the kind of supporter that many games can only dream of having and we look forward to telling you more about where Perdition’s Mouth is heading next once you’ve explored all that this expansion has to offer.

The Train has left the Station
over 8 years ago – Tue, Dec 12, 2017 at 12:43:03 AM

For the second time in a month, I’m going to begin by apologising for not writing sooner. Our last update was a little over two weeks ago, which is much longer than we’d like. Fortunately, that delay is all we have to apologise for right now!

First the really good news - we received confirmation from our manufacturing partners that all of the printed material for Perdition’s Mouth: Abyssal Rift - Traitor Guard was on the train that left Shanghai on Friday, as we told you it would be previously. This train is due to arrive in Berlin on Wednesday 27th December. Everything is in one container, sealed and clearly labelled so hopefully there won’t be any problems with customs but it’s really out of our hands now. All things being well, shipping should begin in the first week of January for all of the expansion packs including the unpainted Brother Örns.

The next bit of good news is that Ukko tells us he’s been progressing well on painting the miniatures and we expect to be able to despatch the first batch of painted Brother Örns at the same time.

Finally - just in case you thought we were done with good news - the Traitor Guard story cover art has been finished and we sent out the ebooks to you yesterday. These were sent as download links through Backerkit. If you haven't seen it in your inbox please check your spam folder first then try logging into your Backerkit profile. If it's not there then contact us.

Hope you had a good weekend battling the cult!

Listen well
over 8 years ago – Fri, Nov 24, 2017 at 12:04:56 AM

We received our production sample yesterday. As you know, we’ve moved production of our games to a different manufacturer from that which we used for the first print run of Perdition’s Mouth: Abyssal Rift. Getting the print sample is the final stage in production before the big switch is flicked and the machines turn our ideas into reality. It’s exciting but also a little daunting - daunting because any problems can’t be fixed without creating delays of months, due to the way that production schedules work at the factory. As such, we have to live with any minor problems.

Overall, we are very happy with the quality of production. We hope you will be too when you get to hold it in your hands. You can get some idea of what to expect from the video below, which Timo recorded to show our manufacturers how they should pack your copies.

Unfortunately, there are one or two things we’re not entirely happy with that you may have noticed in the video, or which you’ll probably notice when you receive it. The colours on the punchboard components are a bit darker than we’d like and also have a glossier finish than those from the original game. We’ve already raised this as a concern with the manufacturers and have their assurance that the issues will be resolved for the Revised Edition production of Perdition’s Mouth: Abyssal Rift. On balance, though, we think you’d rather receive Traitor Guard now than see shipping pushed back several weeks.

So, everything remains on the schedule we provided you with recently.

We also have good news about the soundtrack - this has been finished and has now been sent to those who ordered it. Don’t panic if you haven’t received it yet but maybe get in touch with us if you still haven’t received it in 24 hours.

Plastic Fantastic
over 8 years ago – Wed, Nov 15, 2017 at 07:39:53 PM

As you know, we like to provide you with updates on a more or less weekly basis. So why didn’t we send you one last week? We didn’t have much to tell you and we hoped you trust us enough to think that ‘no news is good news.’ We also think that many of you are backing our current campaign for the Revised Edition of Perdition’s Mouth: Abyssal Rift (more on that later), so this made that decision easier - we’d like to think you might still get excited about hearing from us and that’s less likely when it’s every day!

On Monday we received the blister packs that we’re going to use to protect Brother Örn while he’s on his way to you. We’re quite pleased with these and we hope they resolve the problems of some miniatures getting broken in the post that we’ve experienced in the past. We’re really happy with our manufacturers for this mini - both in the quality of production and in the advice that they’ve been able to offer us.

As you know, we had some problems navigating the printers last month but we’re finally able to provide you with a more precise estimated shipping date. Our mistake with the proofs led to a three week delay in the printing schedule. Production time then took a week longer than what our printers had told us it would, after they experienced some difficulties in accurately colour matching our cards. So that‘s a total delay of four weeks from where we should be.

You are, no doubt, used to Kickstarters giving you a name of a boat to track progress when dispatch to your address is so close. We’re not going to do that. We’re acutely aware of the schedule we promised you so we’re not going to use a boat at all. Instead, we’ve paid extra to have all the printed materials delivered to us by train. This significantly reduces shipping times and risks compared to travelling over the ocean. Even trains aren’t perfect though and the train we need only runs once a week. This is on a Friday and, coincidentally, we’ve been told that our production will be finished on Friday - and catching a train on the same day as the production finishes isn’t possible. So we have to wait another week.

As we’re sure you can appreciate, trying to get things done around December and the festive period isn’t simple, so we expect to receive stock in the first week of 2018. Our warehouse has told us that they should be able to ship everything within two weeks. This means that you should receive a shipping notification and tracking number in the first or second week of January, depending on how quickly the warehouse works through the list of orders.

A Legend is Made

We have also received the text, this week, of the Brother Örn novella that you’ll receive as an ebook. We’re working with Greg Stolze, the author, on putting the finishing touches to his text now and we have commissioned Jamie Noble-Fryer, the artist responsible for all of Perdition’s Mouth: Abyssal Rift’s fantastic artwork, to design a cover. This is all on schedule and, since it’s digital, you’ll receive your copies in time to read them over Christmas.

The Final Hours of Perdition’s Mouth: Abyssal Rift Revised Edition

Our Kickstarter campaign for Perdition’s Mouth: Abyssal Rift revised edition ends in just three days’ time, on Saturday 18th November. If you haven’t had a look at it yet, please do so now and consider backing it. As well as rulebooks and components with errata corrected, a pledge of just US$29 gets you a new hero and lots of unlocked stretch goals - including three new minis and five new scenarios (three of them by special guest designers, including Tristan Hall of ‘Gloom of Kilforth’ fame).

We’ve still got plenty of stretch goals left to unlock and the next one is for two new scenarios and another double-sided game board. Backers from the original campaign will know that this was always intended to form part of the base-game campaign and we’re really excited to see it finally produced.

There are also plenty of backer-requested add-ons for you to explore, such as more scenarios and a custom wooden insert to help simplify set-up, tear-down and storage. We will not do any kickstarter exclusives but some of these add-ons will not be available in future, simply due to the way that they’re being produced, and we’d hate for you to miss out for no other reason than that we hadn’t told you.

Hopefully we’ll see you over there. If not, we’ll see you here again soon.

Hallowe’en Treats
over 8 years ago – Wed, Nov 01, 2017 at 04:38:13 PM

If you’ve backed our Kickstarter campaign for the revised edition you’ll know that Timo did our first live stream yesterday. In spite of all the ghouls, ghosts and goblins that stalked the land on Hallowe’en the insectoid god and his cultists didn’t throw any spanners in the works and it all went very well. So well that we’ve decided to run another one this weekend, when hopefully more people will be able to participate than in the middle of the week. If you’d like to know more about that then head over to the Perdition’s Mouth: Abyssal Rift Revised Edition campaign page.

Meanwhile, we have no Traitor Guard-related dramas to report this week. Hurrah! Instead there has been little change to our schedule since then. Corrected proofs have been returned to the printers and production is continuing apace. Meanwhile, Ukko has been getting on with painting the figures for those that pledged for that service, so we can leave you with your first view of the finished article.
